THE SAME ACTIVE INGREDIENT USED IN iliadin® ALSO TRAVELLED TO THE MOON
_
DEDICATED TO FREEING NOSES
This quest for easier breathing began in 1961, when Dr. Helmut Fruhstorfer and Dr. Helmut Muller-Cargan, two German scientists working at Merck labs in the German city of Darmstadt, synthesised the active ingredient in iliadin® – a new substance called oxymetazoline. This new ingredient proved to be an effective decongestant for the nasal mucosa to free the nose, and would later become the key ingredient in the iliadin® range of nasal decongestants.
OXYMETAZOLINE BLASTS OFF
When the United States of America sent astronauts to the moon in 1969, NASA astronauts took one nasal decongestant along for the ride: one containing iliadin®’s active ingredient, oxymetazoline. The event proved to be a major honour for iliadin®.
UNBLOCKING NOSES OF ALL SIZES
iliadin®’s mission to unblock noses didn’t stop with astronauts – or even with adults.
In fact, iliadin® showed equal determination to provide relief for babies and children, developing a range of products designed specifically for little noses.
This dedication to helping little ones breathe easier would later reach another milestone when iliadin® nasal decongestant was approved for babies, from 1 month of age, in many countries.
iliadin® is South Africa’s top selling nasal decongestant range4 and is the also most frequently prescribed nasal decongestant range5 in the country, trusted4 to unblock noses quickly1 and with good tolerability.
THE FUTURE IS FREE!
The mission is far from over. iliadin® remains as dedicated to the science of relieving blocked noses as it was more than a quarter century ago. With a continuing commitment to new innovation, iliadin® remains devoted to helping the world breathe in all of life’s moments to the fullest – one nose at a time.
1In a prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, iliadin® Metered Nose Spray (0,05 % m/v) demonstrated a statistically significant reducing of the duration of acute rhinitis by 2 days as compared to physiological saline solution and a mean onset of action after 25 seconds.
